Red Fungi

$1,400.00

Acrylic on Wood | 22 × 59 inches | 2026

‍ ‍Found this cool looking piece of wood while shopping for a wood for painting and I could not resist. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it, but something with a tree trunk and then I remembered the red fungi I found in the Haliburton Forest. I looked up for its identity and found that it is a Lacquered Bracket (Ganoderma lucidum). They grow on bark close to the ground. These ones were found on a stump. They are common in Japan and China and Europe, but also found in North America. They are not edible and even bad tasting, they are known for being used in alternative medicine throughout Asia.

This piece is a floor piece, not recommended for hanging.
